Surya at Aircel Chennai Open Tennis 2011

The lead pair of Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra(Rattha Charithram), Surya and Vivek Oberoi,jointly kick started the Aircel Chennai Open at the SDAT Tennis Stadium on Monday evening by playing the inaugural celebrity doubles tennis match.

Surya partnered with Rohan Bopanna, while Vivek teamed up with Pakistan Player Aisam Querishi. The audiences were overwhelmed to see India’s Rohan Bopanna and Suriya arriving at the stadium in an auto rickshaw while Aisam Qureshi and actor Vivek Oberoi arrived together in another auto rickshaw.

Vivek Oberoi’s team beat Surya’s team in the seven point match.

“I haven’t played this game in 15 years. I used to play a lot of games in school. Chennai guys are largehearted, especially my Anna who lost to me,” Vivek Oberoi later said.

Surya retorted in good humour: “We know each other for a long time, and Vivek always calls me Anna, so how can I see him lose, especially in Chennai?”

Surya endorses Aircel in Tamilnadu the main sponsors of the tournament.
